HI, I have a 60 plate 1.8 Durotorq diesel, it takes about 6 miles before I get any heat through the heater or the temp guage moves.
Is this about right?

Hello DMCK,
We have a 2006 1.6 diesel and it too takes a long time to warm up, so 6 miles, or in our case 10 to 15 minutes sounds about right. It is certainly a lot slower than the petrol car we have.

We also have an electric auxiliary heater which comes on when the MAX (or is it DEF?) button is pressed. Though it can be difficult to judge when it is on.

Silverbox.

I just fitted a new thermostat from ford to ours and it takes an eternity to warm up imo, it's significantly longer than my old golf pd130.
If I drive to work (3.2miles), park up with engine running, leave for 5min, head home and it only reaches 88 about 1 mile before I get home.
If I have to stop as it's still warming up the needle goes down??
The golf was up to temp just as I leave work.
It's the longest warm time I have ever known on any diesel, I don't think this thing will ever overheat that's for sure!

Ours gets warm air before that, that's only half the problem though. The engine temp takes an eternity to warm up and in the long run doesn't do the engine much good.
Blanking or disabling the egr can have an effect on warm up time, make me wonder if ours is blanked

Blanking the EGR won't make any difference, this is the second diesel C Max I've had where I've blanked off the EGR using one with a 10mm hole (to prevent the MIL lighting up) and no change in warm up time.

Might be worth checking that your cooling fan isn't constantly running?
Or maybe change the 'stat?

I've just gone out in mine today.
40-50 speed limits
Outside temp 8-9 deg
It took exactly 3 miles to move off the 60 mark getting up to about the normal (for my car) 80 deg in the following 1.5 miles.
Warm air comes out of the vents just after 1 mile.
Come summer it will react faster.

Blocking off the egr does make a difference obviously, it stops a flow of warm air... drilling a hole in the blank is not blanking it off, you blank it off and map it out.

Stat is brand new from ford
