P242f problem

The disadvantages of owning a car with a DPF engine are starting to be understood.

I had a problem a few weeks back and it was fixed by regenerating the DPF and resetting the code. But here I am about 400 mileslater with the same warnings on the dash and theerror code P242f (Ebay bought OBDII reader) is showing.

My question concerns whether the problem is filter based or fluid based. The car has done 50k. Does anyone know if the Cmax has a fluid level error warning. If not my guess is there is something else that is causing the DPF to trigger the fault code.

On another note is the does anyone know if the DPF fluid is the same as the fluid used on theCitroen engines.

I have done a trip of 320 miles within this period BTW

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks Guys, if I understand this then if the ECU has to be told the tank has been refilled then there isn't a sensor to say "I'm empty".
This in turn means that the ECU is counting down usage vs milage (corrections to this understanding invited).

So if my (the cars) usage is above the norm ( too many short runs) then the tank will run out before the count-down triggers a warning.

If - as I suspect - I am in this position, each time the DPF gets regenerated its a matter of time before the alarm triggers to say its clogged up again.

Thanks Richard for the helpful reply. I've spoken to the Garage tonight and they are suggesting the levelsensor is not working and as suspectedthe error is not showing. However its consequences are. I'll update everyone here of any results once I've agreed a repair date.

BTW do you know ifit is OK to drive in this condition?

Short update, too the car in today but before i went I noticed that there was white powder exiting the exhaust. Probably not a good sign as I guess its either the DPF disintegratingor ash making its way out of the DPF through theexhaust. mmm.

Picked up the car today and the bill shows that the DPF change and liquid top-up came to ÂŁ425. Thankfully this was picked up by the Car Seller as the car developed the original fault within the 1m/1000m warrenty. Phew!
My expections though are not great but lets see.

Like to provide a further update to this problem as the dreaded p242f error reappeared last week.I knew it wasn't likely to be the additive this time so went looking for another source of the problem and found the fix here. http://www.talkford.com/topic/158667-non-genuine-dpf-replacement/The dpf has a pressure detect device that senses that the pressures both sides of the dpf are balanced to provide blockage monitoring.I noticed that my DPFE sensor was loose and probably got tired of being bounced around. I reset the error then found that it cleared. A little more fiddling and adjustment in the area and the error came back. I adjusted the pipes fromeither side of the dpf to allowas much slack as is possible and remounted thesensor securely. Et voila!fault cleared and engine running smoothly! No flat spots or lumpy bits since. Famous last words
