having moved over from a 2.0 diesel audi with a 78ltr fuel tank, i was used to getting roughly 600 miles to a tank.

now i have a 1.8 petrol with a 55ltr tank, i got about 330 miles before i refuelled today with a displayed remaining range of 13 miles to empty.

how far can you go on a tank?

Sounds about right.
The 1.8 petrol is notoriously poor on fuel, you can expect 28 ish around town and 36 ish on a run.
Only the diesels fair better!
By coincidence filled ours yesterday & got 31 L in for 347 miles or just on the 50 MPG and that's not on any longer distance journeys for this fill. Mind you had to have the exhaust flexible bit changed as it had fully broken. There is now far more get up and go than there was but it wasn't hanging about or giving much less than 45 MPG even then Only not hearing it now makes you realise what noise had developed

i do about 4 miles to work and back each day. this is far better in any petrol engine as diesels hate short journeys. it maybe poor on fuel, but over time, the petrol will fair better than the diesel.

Not far enough is the simple answer. I could go 500 to 600 miles or more in my old Galaxy TDI but I struggle to go even 500 miles in the C-Max due to the stupidly small fuel tank size of just 53 litres
