Hi all. My old 2.0TDCi 2006 with 165k on the clock had to go to Cmax heaven due to front end damage. I just bought a 2.0TDCi Titanium 2007 model that's done only 61k to replace it as the old one was such a good car. I have found the new one to be a little sluggish and not as responsive as the old car. It seems to struggle up hill and doesn't have that oompf that the 2.0TDCi engine has. The car came from Cornwall and hardly ever saw a motorway so I was thinking that maybe the DPF was clogged? I removed the engine cover and with the engine running I can see bubbles in the fuel line that is coming out of the fuel filter. I have also noticed the average MPG is 32.9 (I have driven 400 miles since I owned it and it's not changed from 32.9) where as my old Cmax was always about 45MPG. The car starts on first turn and runs beautiful with no other running issues at all.
I have taken it out this afternoon and it definitely feels more responsive than it has over the past week so maybe it just needs a good run. Does anyone have any suggestions why or how air is getting into the fuel pipes? Im hoping it's a simple fix and is related to the performance and fuel consumption issues. I did try and upload a video of the fuel line but it wouldn't let me.
Thanks in advance.

IF the air in the fuel lines is excessive, it may be that the fuel filter housing is letting air by. There was a special notice for Fraud fitters about this and a replacement housing was the answer. Having said that I have owned my 2006 2.0TD since 33k and its always shown some small amount of air in the clear lines and never had a problem from it.
I would suggest maybe disconnecting the battery for 10mins (make sure you have the radio code) and then the cpu will have to relearn your driving style. A good thrashing after a relearn to clear the cobwebs might help too if like mine it was driven by miss daisy at 20mph everywhere. good luck!

Thanks for replying. Before I scrapped the old one I ran them up together and the old CMAX had no air in the fuel pipe so that's what I was using for comparison. I will try your what you suggested with the battery. I'm hoping it does just need a good canning as I suspect it had just been poodled around in. I'm seeing lots of ads for DPF cleaning. Is this worth having done?

Try changing the fuel filter. This will allow you to inspect the housing and make sure all connections are tight (as well as renewing the seal) then go from there. I personally would have thought the lack of power is more likely due to gummed up turbo vanes than anything else. Maybe a temporary blanking of the EGR pipe may rule out another possible cause (that will probably put an engine light on).

Ok.

P0299 boost pressure control Charge air pressure too low.

P2263 boost pressure control malfunction

P242F Particulate Filter. Ash content not OK.

So the mechanic has done a DPF regeneration and he says all the errors have cleared and it now has boost. I hope that stays that way.
He not got to the air bubbles issue yet but is replacing the fuel filter tomorrow.

Update: - Car back from Service. DPF regen and needed a new intercooler!! Fuel filter replaced (Still got bubbles in fuel line) but running ok. Had one error P2263 reappear and i lost boost. After stop and restarting, error cleared and got boost back.Done 500 miles of mixed driving since and error P2263 not reoccurred....hopefully it wont! running a few tanks of VPower through it as the car was standing for a long time before i purchased it and was only doing 4 - 5K a year around Cornwall.
