Anyone done a successful conversion on a radio swap for a double din. Im sick of the dab problem and no real fixes, so was thinking of swapping it for a double din BETTER unit.

2010 C-Max or is this in the wrong place on the forum? The Sony unit is built into the main part of the dash and the panel with the switches is connected by flexi-pcb's, as is the display... I don't think you stand a chance in 4311 of fitting a double-DIN head unit, although that website linked above does seem to offer some rather expensive trim pieces, suggesting that it can be done.

Have you searched YouTube for some videos of just how to remove the existing unit? It looks fairly challenging to swap it out

hi. im i new cmax owner, i collect at the weekend, it has one of those halfords style single alpine or kenwood single din radio units i would of fitted way back in the late 90's when i was verging on being a chav.

having had the past two cars with big double din big screens, thewife has said she wants another. i have seen on ebay a harness to apparently keep the stalk radio controls working. im guessing as ive not seen that ill also need a quad lock harness too.

thanks, are you affiliated with them Richard?
not at all
I found them by chance in looking for help with a replacement to the cassette unit in a Ka and they were able to help answer several non std questions as to what did what & the alternatives

Was all a little ironic in the end as the Ka then went & needed more welding to get past the MOT than was worth spending even for such low mileage

2012 titanium tdci. Yes it can be done and has been, but was more asking if someone on here had done it and what they have installed. I agree though, the prices of the dash trim is expensive and my thought is what to do with the locks/hazard switch. I previously had a mazda3 with a Bose system and that was the same, built in, but loads converted them to double din. I would like one as to be able to match all our phones (doesn't bond with Nokia lumia) also the DVD and built in satnav would be nice and option of a reverse camera would be also but it looks close on ÂŁ1k to do

that is a kit you're looking for.

CTKFD34C - google it.

I am thinking myself whether it is worth converting whole sony 9 speakers unit I have or just dampen sides and boot and upgrade speakers. There is NO sub out in sony head unit so this is bad for me as I had to return fli sub back to halfords as there is no normal way to connect sub.

I changed the one in my 2005 cmax ghia to a double din android unit, Was very easy but have to say the cheap android units are a bit laggy at times but you get what you pay i suppose.
It came ready for my car and i retained all the stalk controls.

one word of warning...once you remove the original radio the dashboard clock shows a random time and you cant reset the time without the original head unit. my clock is wrong and according to the date im still in 2006 lol. a bit irritating

@thehusband are you happy with that Kenwood? Would you recommend it?
Sorry for being off topic.

I'm in the process of upgrading my stock stereo and looking for a good one.

From my research Kenwood is a good option. But can't make up my mind. All the reviews I've read so far are hype garbage. Actually I've tracked down a site that tells it how it is. I was eyeing the Kenwood DDX9705S unit thanks to the review.

Can you tell me how bad the is the screen glare? What about the price is there enough value to justify it?

I'm open for suggestions
