Since I hardly ever use the rear seats in my Cmax, I am thinking of removing them in order to reduce weight and thereby, hopefully, improve performance and MPG somewhat. The seats appear to be incredibly heavy to me, but does anyone know what the combined weight of the 3 rear seats actually is? My guess is that they must be well in excess of 100kg, but I can't find any reference to my query on Mr Google.

Thanks all.

Be a little careful about taking that much weight from the rear as it may affect the braking and the possibility of the rear brakes locking up (although the ABS should help)

The brakes are designed to work with a set MINIMUM weight on each axle so that when the rear axle gets lighter as you brake hard they don't lock up and have the potential to send you round in a tail spin

try looking at Annex 10 to ECE Regulation 13 here http://www.unece.org/trans/main/wp29/wp29regs1-20.html
for the full possible implications

54kg, eh. Well that's not too bad. I'm suprised because they feel as if they weigh a ton, but will take advice and leave them be. I wouldn't want to take the car for an actual spin rather than a metaphorical one
. Thanks everyone.
