Hi CJADAM welcome to the site.
I have a sneeking suspision that your alternator could be on it`s way out.
Lots of weird things happen when it starts to go.
let us know how you get on

Does it go flat in the same length of time with the doors locked because if not I wonder if the central locking motors are continuing to draw current - just a thought

Thank you for your help and my appologies for the dalay in replying. The battery only goes flat when the car is unlocked. As you say I suspected that somthing was drawing current but wasent sure if it would something like the fuel pump but not being familiar with not only the car but desils in general, could the glow plugs also be an issue due to the fact that the current being drawn must be quite high due to the rappid discharging?

Once again thank you fir your help.

Glow plugs could be an issue but they of course mean that your start circuits are live even without turning the key. I'm quite new to having a diesel but I believe that if it were the case that something around the glow plugs ought to feel at least a little warm
