i bought aford c-max 2.0 tdci i paid £12450 cash march 2004 with 2 miles on the clock from mcrae & dick in perth.after we collected the car returned home happy with our purchase.in the morning we decided to go a run ,jumped in would not start the immobiliser light was flashing, quick phone to dealer and leave it for a minute and try again. it worked so off we headed, arrived in braemar stopped for lunch, tried to head off again only to find we could not select any gears, after three hours the local cowboys that the rac/aa use discovered that the cable linkage had parted, all was well for two months until the immobiliser fault happened again, a new battery was needed they said.It went well again until 5000 miles when it developed a coolant leak spent 48 hours in the garage only to go back for failing to stop the leak. a new pipe was needed. another 48 hours. after 9000 miles the clock started to lose time and the radio was picking up other stations in the background, bring it in common fault twenty minute fix. the mechanic says all we have to do is clear the code and renter the code.but after one hour i said is their a problem no they are just trying to upload the new code but the ecu wont accept the new code .well leave it for now and i will bring it back another time .you dont understand when they cleared the code it was for the whole car and not just the radio. try 5 days and a new ecu which lasted 6 months before the same happened again, after much complaining to ford the car was unfit for the road and demanded a replacement all we got was a free 10.000 service. this car has broke down on twelve separate occassions having to be towed to local dealership 7 times.25000 miles and now the turbo started whistling and the fuel pump was giving off strange noises.i can honestly say this is the worst car we have ever had and the service from ford has convinced us never to buy ford again.sorry if its a long winded rant but i feel its something we should know whenthinking ofbuying a ford.

hi clyde
i know how you feel but my worst car was a nice silver vw golf gt tdi it looked the dogs bits parked there on the garage forecourt, so the wife bought it all was happy until we went on hols to cornwall, we filled up down there at a bp station, two miles down the road and engine managment light went on and the car just stopped, calledvw garage and they sent out one of there recovery boys to sort car out he just plugged in pc and went o'dear the engine was dead. car on trailer (still looked the dogs bits up there)back to vw. week later got a call fromvw engine dead due to wrong fuel being used,i just told them it was filled with the correct fuel and that i had a receipt which would confirm i had used diesel.but no luck they blamed us so i called there boss he already new about problems and told him to give us our money back all of it or we will see them in court he choice court and lost, was told to refund price of car plus court costs and compenstion for our time he did offer a replacment vw but told him to keep it and so we got a c-max 2.0tdci ghia and so far no probs after 8,000 miles. it just gos to show that any car doesnt matter what make or model you can still get a bad one.

Probably the main thing is perhaps don't buy a new car and not forgetting the amount they lose in just the first few miles
