I've just bought a focus c-max and was suprised to find the spare key has no remote. Does anybody know the cheapest way to get one??

You can buy them from ebay but I think (and hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong) you still need to take it to Fords to program up for you.

Do remember that when you do have a new key to take all the other keys with you as they have to reprogramme ALL the keys together (At the same time) for them all to work

I PRICED A REMOTE KEY UP FROM MY LOCAL FPORD DEALER AND IT WAS £180 FOR A KEY , REMOTE AND AN HOUR IN THE WORKSHOP TO PROGRAME IT . SOUNDS LIKE A RIP OFF TO ME

Dealers are allways expensive. Buy a key from somebody else and pay only for that hour in the workshop.

However, remember that there are3 security things related to a remote key:
-the mechanical part (the shape of the key); there are o lot of places where they can modify mechanicaly the key to fit your lock; you will need aworking key too
-theradio code of the key; you have above instructions about how to modify this
-the security chip inside the key, that can unlock the immobilizer of your car, so you can start the engine; as far as I know, you can change this only in a dealer workshop.


so, if what I know is true, then you can program by yourself a new key only to open the car, not to start the engine

THANKS FOR THE REPLY , I GOT A REMOTE FOB AND A SPARE KEY WITH THE CAR BOTH WILL START THE CAR SO I THINK I WILL JUST BUY ANOTHER REMOTE FOB AND PROGRAME IT AS INSTRUSTIONS SHOW AND USE SPARE KEY TO START IT . IT SAVES ABOUT £130 AND ITS NO REAL HARDSHIP TO HAVE A KEY ON THE FOB . THANKS AGAIN RUSS

This is superb timing.
I found a place that will do a standard key for £88 or a normal 3 button key fob for £138.

Did try Timpsons for a key cut, but told no way, dealer only for that year.

I think due to the cost i'll use the spare key and give my wife the main one. The only problem is when i open the door (with the key) i only have about 10 seconds before the alarm goes off?? Is there a way to overide this?

I DONT THINK THE ALARM CAN BE ALTERED ON THE C MAX , A FRIEND HAS A S MAX AND HE CAN TURN THE ALARM OR SENSORS OFF IN THE INFO DISPLAY ON THE DASH , I THINK THE SOFT WARE MUST BE DIFFERENT ACROSS THE MODELS . I HAVE E MAILED A FEW SELLERS ON E BAY ASKING IF THEIR FOBS WILL WORK ON A C MAX . I AGGREE IT IS A LOT FOR A FORD REMOTE SO MY IDEA IS TO USE AN AFTER MARKET FOB TO UNLOCK AND SWITCH ALARM OFF THEN USE THE SPARE KEY TO START IT . THINK I MUST BE GETTING LAZY IN MY OLD AGE ITS NO REAL TIME WASTER OPENING A DOOR WITH A KEY !

This morning, while trawling around ebay I found a 3 button flip control and uncut blade for £54.99 + £3.95 P&P brand new!
Of course it was bought on the spot and with the instructions earlier, I should be able to programme it. Just got look further for someone to cut the blade.
