Hi All,

I'm new to the forum. I have put a deposit down on a 1.8 TDCI C Max Titanium. I am due to view it when it comes into he garage new Saturday (7th March). Is there anything I should be looking out for when I inspect the car? It is a Ford Direct car and has done 10,000 miles?

Many thanks

Being Ford Direct car, this should come with all the usual "back ups".

As for what to look for:

See who the previous owner was. Was it from a Driving school? If so ensure that the clutch has a seperate warranty.
Service history - I know it's new but..!
Check the tyres and alloys (if fitted) for dinks and wear. £250+ for a set of 4 boots.
Check every button inside the car, push it, bash it, poke it several times to ensure it all works. Any extras like heated seats then again wait till your bum is nice and warm

Thanks for the reply and the advice. Will certainly check all them things. We are getting it for £11k, so unless there are any problems, we should buy it. I think it's a good price to pay?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. We are getting it for 11k so I think that the high milage is refected in the price. We only average around 5k miles per year and plan on keeping it for 7-8 years so the milage should even out over that time,

Thanks again,

HI WE BOUGHT AN 8 MONTH OLD 07 PLATE ZETEC LAST YEAR WITH 5300 MILES ON IT . NICE CAR AND SAVED OVER £5000 ON A NEW ONE . THE ONE THING I DID NOT REALISE WAS THEY DONT HAVE A SPARE WHEEL AS STANDARD SO IF YOU GET A FLAT AND USE THE CANNISTER THE TYRE IS ONLY FIT FOR THE BIN !! SO I WOULD ASK FOR A SPARE AND JACK , NO HARM IN ASKING AND FOR A FAST SALE I BET YOU WOULD GET ONE . HAPPY BUYING RUSS

the spare and jack are a no cost FACTORY option for NEW vehiclesand I stress factory

there was a post a while back where even though the availability of this option was mentioned the dealer still wanted some large amount to retrospectively supply them even though the new vehicle hadn't arrived with them because they had to order it from Ford seperately (they couldn't amend the original order

I've had my 08 Plate Titanium 1.8tdci since August last year.
As soon as the weather improves (Cant keep a car looking presentable this time of year) I'm getting rid of it.

Worst car I've ever had.

Thaks for the positive feedback. I think it wierd that someone is a member of an owners club but cant wait to get rid of the car. I wonder why??

Hi Russ, thanks for the advice, I'll certainly ask. The car has been delayed getting to the garage so it maybe next weekend before we get it. Slightly dissapointing but hey ho, thats life and hopefully it will be worth the wait,

I am a member because I thought I was buying something good and was impressed with some of the comments before I bought the thing!

The reality was, after owning the car for a month and not being able to get a comfortable driving position, unimpressed with the fuel consumption, poor performance and as for the throttle / clutch at low revs!

Before you ask, yes it has been back to a main dealer and having been told "they are all like it", it's got to go.

The C-Max doesn't come close to my old Focus 1.8tdci which I had for 135K miles!

Plus...this is an "Owner's Club, not a "Fan Club" where I would hope positive and negative comments would be welcome!!!

Positive & negative thoughts are more than welcome.I think most of us on the site have both good & bad experiences with their C-Max.I have mainly positive experiences with mine & I`ll still be getting a second one,so my wife & I have one.If I get any problems with the second one,I`ll be the first to let fly.

I think everyone will encounter a love/hate feeling with anything in this life.

While I wish everything to be perfect, the real world says not and I am so glad that people are out not afraid to talk and advice others of there dilemmas and of course the happy times.

Since owning our CMax we have had some faults that have needed sorting. Some required plenty of research and phone calls while others just needed to be asked.

I have also been in a position where after a major failure with the CMax and a bill for some serious cash to be spent, I wanted rid of the car. I am glad I didn't.

MINE IS ONLY A 1.6 PETROL , I DONT THRASH IT BUT NOR AM I SUNDAY DRIVER THE CAR KEEPS UP WITH TRAFFIC , PULLS AWAY SWIFTLY AND SITS AT MOTORWAY SPEED UNSTRESSED . FUEL CONSUMPION HAS GOT BETTER AS THE MILES HAVE INCREASED BUT I DO THINK THAT MODERN CARS ARE A LOT HEAVIER THAN OLD ONES DUE TO ALL THE SAFTEY INCORPERATED INTO THEM SO ARE BOUND TO BE LESS ECOMICAL . JUST TAKE A REAR SEAT OUT AND FELL THE WEIGHT OF IT , THEY ARE A HELL OF A LOT HEAVIER THAN AN OLDER CARS SEATS. I WOULD AGREE THE DRIVERS SEAT COULD DO WITH A BIT MORE IN THE WAY OF COMFORT BUT ITS NOT ENOUGH TO DISLIKE THE CAR .

Thanks to Dan for setting up the section where people can put the good and the bad points and their experiences of owning the C-Max as all this kind of info will hopefully enable people to decide whether the car is right for them.
My only major gripe is the stupid EPB, but thats a favourite fault with anyone who has one.

I'll second you there on the weight things Russ those back seats are flippin' heavy...

For example I have an old Escort RS2000 which was supposed to produce 150bhp when it was new, it is now over 12 years old and although my 2 litre C-Max is supposed to have 145bhp there is definitely a more noticable difference in power, and I'm sure most of that is down to weight.

I can accelerate much quicker in the Escort than I can in C-Max by a long way.... but the ride and comfort in the C-Max easily out does the Escort.
