Hi Everyone,

I bought my 05 plate petrol Ghia last year and all is well so far except....

First the good points : I like the seating position, ride, handling, comfort and all the Ghia"extras" - Cruise, heated front screen, reversing sensors etc. - even got used to the EPB.

It`s an ex motability car and was well looked after, with low mileage (23 k on purchase)

Most of thellttle niggles I can live with, but what is that awful creaking/squeaking noise at low speed, coming from the doors,it would seem?I`m sure I can`t be the only one who has this problem? Is it the door panels/trim,or sometimes I think its the suspension(Rear mostly)? It is worst going over speed bumps.
Any help or advice on how to cure this would be most appreciated.!

Thank you.

Thanks for reply,MM.
I have found so far only one reference to creaky door panels,by Ian22,just over a year ago on `Newbies`:
"Also look for creaky door panels as mine were very creaky. sorted with some glue & a bit of sponge so car is nice & quiet now."
This helps a bit in confirming my suspicions about door panels, but I`m not sure how he used the "glue and a bit of sponge." and precisely where?Ok I`m sure I could find a way,but any information and things to look out for would be helpful and greatly appreciated!

My car was quite normal until I wiped the door seals with silicone. Both the rubbers on the door and the ones on body.
This now 'creaks' as I back out of the drive and on bumpy roads. Did the silicone treatment to my first Max but this one definately seems to have a lot of body, door frame, flex.

I think they are bit wobbly!
! They flex enough to let a cold draught in around the facia vents when cornering so perhaps welding the doors shut and using the windows as exits.........?

hat, coat, dor..............................................................................................................

That really works to any benefit if you have front McPherson stuts as suspension (the old Mk 1 escorts when they were rallying had them)

I can't think wjere you'd attach them at least with the 1.6TDCI

I`m going over to see some freinds I used to work with in my BTCC days tomorrow,so with a little help from them we should be able to work out the best arrangement for fitting. If it`s possible of course !

I find cod liver oil solves the creaks and... oh sorry wrong problem

Welcome to the forum!
Would agree with the silcone treatment on all seals if only to prolong the rubber seals life and to keep them from drying up.

Many thanks for all replies!

I had already tried the silicone treatment on door seals, and it seemed to help for a day or two. Also, the noise (almost) disappears when the car is loaded. It does vary from day to day, probably due to temperature and humidity variations.

I was kind of worried that the flexing was caused by perhaps something sinister on my car only and was relieved to hear that it is fairly common.
The strut brace sounds interesting and promising.(I can remember such things were talked about in many a pub conversation way back in the `60s and `70s!)Please let me know how you get on with this.
If all else fails, perhapsI should consider Doris`s solution of welding everything shut.

Sorry for late reaction to replies.
The strut brace looks the most interesting solution for flexing, but is it worth the bother/expense?I am probably too sensitive to squeaks and rattles anyway,as some passengers have said"I don`t hear anything unusual"!
It may just be one of those things I`ll have to get used to.The car is excellent otherwise.
(I will be looking out for anyone with a possible fix though, including the strut-brace.)
