I have a 2003 tdci which has covered 78k, sometimes when the car is started the revs struggle to maintain around 500 rpm but once revved seems to be okay. sometimes you can start the car and it will just stall straight away then you get the fault of car is up and running but are unable to get the car to rev at all, it seems as thou the car is not registering any throttle movement.

I have heard numerous poeple go on about a possible sticking EGR valve, can you check this out or even clean it. If you can clean it where is it located and how easy is it to get to and remove?

To start with when you said it wouldn`t rev over 500rpm I thought it might be a blocked fuel filter, but if you say it does it after runs too then maybe not. When did you last have it serviced & was the fuel filter changed then?
