Well I ordered my 2.0 TDCi Titanium in Panther Black on the 24th. January and have just spoken to the dealer who says he can't give me a delivery date, he has not even been given a build date yet and he reckons demand has gone through the roof, he reckons it is going to be at least April, so frustrating!!

I'm still waiting for confirmation of my date too, and mine was in December
. I'm also having to add 3 months to whatever date it arrives, as even the dealers are having trouble getting the Grand C-Maxwith certain specs.

Here in Spain the dealers are telling me there is a manufacturing problem with the new 2.0 TDCi.It seemsthey cannot get it to pass the CO2 emissions spec. so none can be produced at present. They are hoping to have it resolved by April but no guarantees.I've just cancelled my order and bought a pre-production ex-demo/ex-manager model instead. It should be with me in two weeks and actually is a higher spec. and saves me a few thousand euros too.

Hello SpanishRed, I ordered a 2.0TDCi powershift early Dec. and given a build date 11 Feb, been to the dealer today and was told the car was gate released on 17th
Maybe they're sending all the dirty ones to the U.K.
anyway should have the car about this time next month, looking forward to hear what you think of yours.

Just been told by my dealer, mine arrived yesterday NO CO2
problems, and remember Switzerland is one of the toughest in Europe on
this, so I wonder if your dealer may have been giving you the run
around? As I have a special deal with my garage here, I can not actually
pick it up yet, but will be going to have a look over it soon!

Forgot to mention mine was ordered a week before Christmas 16th/17th December so that makes it around 9 weeks instead of the usual 4 - 6 weeks that is normal here. The only C-Max I see on the road here is one used by a Ford dealer!

I have not seen one on the road at all!!
According to my contract with the dealer I can issue a 'time is of the essence ' letter after 3 weeks of the estimated delivery date which will give them 7 days to deliver or be in breach of contract, I can then ask for my deposit back and cancel the deal, I might have to because of circumstances regarding existing car and finance etc. Hope it does not come to that.

I'm not sure trenny, how you stand in that situation as your contract conditions would determine if it is reasonable for you to cancel in less than the normal delivery time, as three weeks would be very short and can be seen as an unreasonable time to expect as most manufacturers quotea minimum offour weeks sometimes a lot lot more. Volvo had quoted a friend over mine four months minimum for his as it was in short supply.

My 1.6L TDCI Titanium in Midnight Sky was dealer stock with convenience pack fitted. Bought for the end of January and supplied in a week by Essex Ford and several other local dealers had stock too. I believe Essex Ford still had Grand C-max in stock when I last called in. Obviously if you want a specific set of options you have to wait, luckily I wasn't that bothered.

It is a bit confusiing, the sales invoice has a stated required delivery of the 1st.March 2011, I ordered on the 24th. January 2011, the terms and conditions state that you can write a 'time is of the essence ' letter twenty one days after stated delivery time when you can give the dealer 7 days to produce the goods, if not you can cancel, I think the confusion is what is the agreed delivrey time? is it the required delivery stated on the invoice or an actual delivery date when known by the dealer, the problem is this could be weeks or months away.

SpanishRed,
That comment about not meeting C02 emissions is hard to believe, Ford do not put vehicles into production that have not been homologated ie certified by the TUV testing authority, this is done months before production starts. Perhaps something has been lost in translation between Ford and the dealers.

Hi Steve,Given that the message came from the plant in Valencia to the dealer down the road in Alicante a translation problem seems unlikely. However, I do agree with your thoughts on pre-production testing. As it only appears to affect the 2.0l TDCi it could just be a fullproduction problem.Either way, as the dealer was more than happy to offer me a deposit refund or the option of an ex-demo/ex-manager car without any issue does suggest they are not expecting any arrivals for a while.Plus, when the cars do start rolling off the line again there will be quite a backlog to fill before they get to more recent orders.I'm happy, I've gota better spec'd car much cheaper. OK, officially it's not brand new but I think I've got a good deal.Bryan

SpanishRed,
Yes I agree about the production problem but in my 26 years in engine development at Ford i am not aware of any Engine Plant capability to do engine emission testing. This requires lots of specialist equipment and engineering expertise not available in production plants. They only usually conduct Quality Control checks on Power and Torque, and the targets set take account of the high level of friction expected from new engines, this means the engines only have to be within +- 5% of the certified/advertised data. The engines used for fuel economy and emissions would be fully run-in with at least 100 hrs testing time.As CO2 is directly proportionate to fuel economy if there is a issue there must be some data somewhere which suggests the fuel economy is not as good as advertised or just a general production problem.

I agree Steve V, Mine has arrived and it is a 2.0TDCI, so if it had failed tesing, I would not have received mine at all. I can well believe that the orders have backed up as I would guess the production would have not been running over the Christmas period and it takes a while to build up any stock, especially with a new vehicle. I guess that the problem with the central locking could have complicated the situation too.
