Well today I got my car back from the dealers after it went in yet again to have another problem fixed.


This time around it was the EGR valve that had gone on the car.


I to my surprise when picking it up was handed a bill for £213 that was to supply and fit a new EGR valve and gasket.


I would like to give a big
to Bristol Street Motors Garretts Green as they have always been very helpful to me and today they have saved me a little cash aswell.

That is good news.I have just got a quote back (1 week after needing it ) for a used EGR valve it`s £45,so I think I`ll get that.The other part of the quote was for he turbo solenoid valve & that was £179.Think I`ll get that too.If it`s that much used,whatwould thedealers price be
.

I am very happy that I got it sorted at that price.


I am fed up with spending money on the car but This problem meant my car would fail its M.O.T I was told.

I had no choice but to have it changed.

The car has no M.O.T at the minute as it ran out last monday and the engine light was on at that time it ran out.

I now have that problem sorted.


I can now take the car out my garage get the M.O.T and then start using it again.

I have not been driving it due to it having no M.O.T.

I was going to look for a used part but I have read that these EGR valves are a common problem on fords.

I decided because of this I would get it replaced with a new one.

My ford dealer did tell me they were going to discount me for doing it before I got it done so I knew I was getting a good price for the work to be done before hand.

I atleast now have the peice of mind that it is a new part and I also have a 12 month guarantee so if anything goes wrong it will be going straight back to them.

Oh and mike £45 for a EGR valve is a massive saving mate.

My local dealer were I had the car fixed wanted close to £200 for the EGR valve.

G.F.S by B&Q warehouse wanted just under £170.

£170 is about the going rate for a new one.The only thing with a used one is if it has to be fitted,the car needs reprogramming by a dealer as independants don`t have the equipment
. Anyway I`ll get it & have a spare.

There is no mention on any part of the TIS disc that I've seen that says anything about reprogramming ANYTHING after fitting an EGR valve

Mike the guy at ford that fixed my car told me you dont need the car reprogrammed. I asked him again and he told me it is a case of just changing theold one for a new one.

When mine packed up last weekI took it to an independant garage (the one I use all the time) & they could not do the job as there is a warning in the box with the EGR saying the car needs reprogramming.I saw the warning myself.They were really sorry cos it`s cost them a job.Maybe it`s only the deisels that need doing.
I too thought it was a case of just swapping them,I know it is in petrol cars cos my brother-in-law just did one on a Polo.
I`ll ring chambers in the morning and see what they say.
