Hi fellow members we have had yet another journey where our c max has lost power on themotorway... upon stopping we decided to call the RAC man who put a machine on it and came up with a fault on the brake light switch, he was convinced this was the problem ....Question is has anyone else lost power and found this to be the fault, or is this going to be an expensive on going problem with the car goint into main dealer - Babs.

The diesels are controlled by Electronic diesel control (EDCwhere there is no equivalent to a throttle cable and comparative voltages within the ECU control the pposition of the fuel pump "rack" and the amount of fuel that is fed into the "common rail" It is a Bosch system which SHOULD !!! be able to be dealt with by anyone

The following are Bosch Diesel agents or start here for further help http://www.boschautoparts.co.uk/

If it the autobox that is giving problems then you may have to find a specialist for this as Ford I believe will obly replace the wholee unit for around £4K

I think the box itself was a ZF product this is ZF UK web contact

Just realised I didn't answer all the questions
As Diesels don't have a throttle they can't of course have a throttle closed switch to indicate idle. They apparently have extra switches to indicate clutch pedal or in an auto that the brake pedal is depressed (both only likely to happen with no throttle demand) so yes this could be related

Not sure where the mention of dogs came in but our two are a black "Irish Wolfhound" Lurcher and a white (with black patches) greyhound

Doodler,

Best of luck with your problem. Hendy FordEastleigh had 15 attempts at finding exactly this problem on my CVT auto and failed, despite chaging me over £1,500 and trying: EGR valve / software updates / crankcase breather hose / wiring changes etc. etc.

I got so fed up I sold the car, costing me thousands more. Hendy's then 'phoned me up a month later saying they couldn't now provide a courtesy carfor the service booking for that day they'd made 6 weeksearlier and not cancelled. Then they said "oh, that's alright then."

Bunch of incompetents. And Ford Customer Relations are no better. They don't give a stuff.

I'll never buy a Ford again. And I'd owned Fords for 17 years prior to this.
