I posted a how to programme remote the other day.
Ign Pos 1 ( radio on ) turn to pos 2 ( ign lights on ) and back to pos 1 four times within 6 secs, chime will be heard on cars built upto 2005 ( I think! )  turn to pos 0, press and hold a button on fob for a few secs, chime will be heard ( see note above! ), press and hold button on additional Fob to be programmed ( upto 8 can be programmed, again memory! Confused )within 6 secs.
Voila, programmed remote Fob!
N.B, not to be confused with the immobiliser!
Agree with the above, with regards to bonnett and disconnecting battery to avoid upsetting neighbours, just wish I could disconnect our neighbours dogs` batteries at 11:30PM and 6:00AM, sods!

as previously mentioned, lock 3 doors manually from inside, then lock remaining front one with key!

What trim level spec? Normally if the alarm is going off it will be caused by the activation of the interior or perimeter sensors that come on the higher (highest?) level spec cars.

You deactivate it by pressing the button on the interior door handle where the electric window switches are on the rear doors. The dash should inform you it's been deactivated. Then lock the car as normal.

From my reading of the wiring diagrams the buttons lock the doors by operating the same motors as the the first stage of the key or the remote

you are able to lock manually without power, motors only actuate the mechanism.
